Padua
A scholarly city with Giotto's masterwork, Europe's oldest botanical garden, and vibrant piazza life.

About Padua
Padua—Padova in Italian—is a city of extraordinary culture that often gets overlooked in favour of nearby Venice. It shouldn't be. The Scrovegni Chapel houses Giotto's complete fresco cycle (1303-1305), one of the most important works of art in Western civilisation, depicting the life of the Virgin and Christ in revolutionary naturalistic style. The University of Padua (1222) is one of the world's oldest, where Galileo taught and where the Anatomical Theatre pioneered modern medicine. The Prato della Valle is one of Europe's largest piazzas, the Basilica di Sant'Antonio draws millions of pilgrims, and the botanical garden (1545) is the oldest academic garden in the world. All this, with a lively student atmosphere and excellent spritz culture.
Best Time to Visit
April to June or September to October. The Scrovegni Chapel requires advance booking year-round. June brings the Feast of Sant'Antonio. The university gives the city energy except in August.
Local Tips
- Book the Scrovegni Chapel.
Giotto's fresco cycle is viewed in timed 15-minute slots—book weeks ahead. A local will prepare you for what to look for: the revolutionary emotion in Joachim's face, the first blue sky in Western art, and the kiss of Judas.
- Do the aperitivo crawl.
Padua's students have perfected the art of the spritz crawl through the connected piazzas. A local knows the circuit: Piazza delle Erbe for the first spritz, Piazza della Frutta for the second, and Prato della Valle for sunset.
- Visit the world's oldest botanical garden.
The Orto Botanico (1545) preserves Goethe's palm tree and a newly expanded biodiversity garden. A local can explain how this garden pioneered the scientific study of plants and changed medicine forever.

I am a local tour guide with over twenty years of experience in Venice and it’s lagoon. As a native of the area and a resident nearby, I have a deep and authentic connection with this extraordinary land, which I know not only historically and artistically, but also in its most authentic and everyday aspects. I love sharing Venice’s natural beauty, artistic and cultural heritage, centuries-old traditions, and the unique identity that makes the lagoon a place like no other. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience that allows me to offer personalized itineraries, combining great masterpieces with lesser-known gems, offering an authentic and engaging experience. I also pay great attention to food and wine, guiding guests to discover the typical flavours and culinary traditions of Venice. My goal is for you to experience Venice not just as a tourist destination, but as an emotional, cultural, and sensorial experience, leaving you with an indelible memory of this unique city.

Hey! I'm Beatrice. I come from Treviso, a little gem just outside Venice. I love trekking in the Dolomites, swimming in mountain lakes, and exploring new places. I work as a travel co-ordinator and I love exploring. Food is definitely my Achilles’ heel, I just can’t resist it! Especially Tiramisù (that was invented in my beautiful city: Treviso). I’m deeply in love with my region, Veneto, and I’m always happy to share it with others (because there’s so much more than just Venice). That said, even in Venice I know some hidden gems that are absolutely worth discovering 😉 Whether it’s uncovering hidden natural spots, planning outdoor adventures, or diving into local traditions, I love creating genuine, memorable experiences that go beyond the usual tourist paths.

From the canals of Venice and its lagoon to historic cities, elegant villas, and the landscapes of the Venetian countryside, I help travelers experience the area beyond the usual tourist paths. My goal is to create itineraries that feel natural, well paced, and rich in authentic experiences. I love suggesting special places, local restaurants, scenic routes, and encounters that reveal the true character of the region. If you want to explore Venice and the Veneto with the insight of someone who truly knows the area, I’ll be happy to help you plan your journey.

Hello fellow travellers! I’m Loris, experienced tour guide and travel designer from Bassano del Grappa, a small gem in northern Italy between the Dolomites and the Venetian plains. I’ve also spent several years in Treviso (the capital of Tiramisù) and Como, and these places are still my main reference when it comes to Italy: food, landscapes, and how locals actually move through them. Over the last years I’ve lived between a few European and Asian cities, but I keep coming back to Italy regularly and know it well beyond the typical highlights. I focus a lot on how places really work on the ground: where to stay depending on your vibe, how to avoid the obvious tourist traps, and how to stitch together experiences that actually feel like the place. I spend most of my time outdoors: sailing in the Mediterranean, diving, snowboarding in the Alps, hiking in the Dolomites; so trips I design tend to lean into an explorer vibe, surrounded by nature and hidden gems, and a bit off the usual routes. At the same time, I’m big on food, markets, and those simple local spots that end up being the best part of a trip. So, are you ready to pack your bags and embark on an incredible journey? Let's explore Italy together and create lasting memories, one meal and breathtaking landscape at a time!
