The Three Best Hotel Bars in London (For When You Want the Luxury Without Paying for the Room)

TheVoyageCo asked Dewi for her local insights for London. This is what she said.

London's three best hotel bars aren't about spending money. They're about experiences. Dukes Bar in St James's (nearest tube: Green Park) serves tableside Martinis by white-jacketed waiters, two-drink maximum enforced. The Savoy American Bar on the Strand is a glamorous institution with perfectly executed classics. The Connaught Bar pairs technical precision with creativity. One drink at each across a long evening covers a century of London bar culture.

Working in hospitality for over thirteen years, I've discovered that the best hotel bars in London are not about spending money. They're about experiences you cannot get anywhere else. These three bars represent the pinnacle of what London bar culture can be.

Dewi has lived in London since 2007. Definitely a Londoner by now. Having worked in tourism and hospitality for over thirteen years, she knows the best places to eat and drink, from brilliant hotel bars to cosy cafes that show you the real London.

1. Dukes Bar at Dukes Hotel: The Martini Destination

St James's Place, nearest tube Green Park

Take the first left down St James's Place and you'll find the Dukes Hotel courtyard. The bar is on the right as you enter, and the staff will greet you and help guide you. There's a two-drink maximum policy because the Martinis are so exceptional that you truly only need one or two.

The Martinis are made at your table by white-jacketed waiters, prepared any way you like. They are considered among the best Martinis in the world, a fact the bar takes seriously. The room itself is old-world London elegance, where serious Martini drinkers come.

The dress code is strictly enforced: dress to impress. This is not casual. It is an experience in formality and excellence. One Martini at Dukes changes your understanding of what a cocktail can be.

2. The Savoy American Bar: Classic Cocktails

Central London

The American Bar at The Savoy is an institution. The room is glamorous and historic, and the bartenders are serious about their craft. The cocktails are classic and perfectly executed.

This bar hosts serious drinkers and people who understand cocktails. It is the kind of room where you feel the history of London hospitality, where standards have never dropped.

3. Connaught Bar: Precision and Innovation

Central London

The Connaught Bar is modern London at its finest. The bartenders are obsessed with precision and innovation, creating cocktails that are unexpected but perfect. The atmosphere is sophisticated and welcoming.

This is where London's bar scene is heading: technical excellence combined with creativity, high standards combined with approachability.

You don't need to book a suite to feel London at its best. One Martini at Dukes, a Sazerac at the Savoy, a signature at the Connaught. Three drinks across one long evening, and you'll have walked through a century of London hospitality.
