Five hidden gems on the Sorrento coast that most visitors never find: La Regina Giovanna (an ancient Roman villa with a natural swimming pool in Sorrento), Baia di Ieranto (an FAI-protected turquoise bay near Massa Lubrense), Punta Campanella (the clifftop meeting point of two gulfs), Fiordo di Crapolla (a secret fjord reached by cliff stairs), and Marina di Puolo (a working fishing village serving that morning's catch). 1. La Regina Giovanna, Sorrento

This is an ancient Roman villa overlooking water so clear it's almost impossible to believe. The villa itself is ruins now, but standing there you feel the history. The most special part is the natural swimming pool formed by a rocky arch. Crystal-clear water framed by ancient stone.
It's wild and peaceful, away from the resort crowds. The path down is scenic, and the whole experience feels like discovering something no one else knows about. Perfect for sunrise or sunset, when the light hits the water differently. This is the Sorrento coast at its quietest.
2. Baia di Ieranto, Massa Lubrense

This bay is protected by FAI, the Italian environmental organisation, so it has remained pristine. The water is turquoise and transparent, and there's a scenic hiking trail that offers breathtaking views of Capri. The whole place feels like total tranquillity.
It's ideal for snorkelling, for slow beach days, for just being. The pebble beach is surrounded by olive trees and Mediterranean scrub. This is what I come to when I need to remember why I love this stretch of the Sorrento coast.
3. Punta Campanella, Massa Lubrense

This is the symbolic meeting point between the Gulf of Naples and the Gulf of Salerno. There's a lighthouse here with open views of Capri and the water in all directions. A coastal trail is rich with history and legends.
I love this place because it feels mystical. On clear days, the view reaches forever. Occasionally, you see dolphins. The atmosphere is untouched and authentic.
4. Fiordo di Crapolla, Torca

This hidden fjord is reached by a long staircase down the cliff. The reward is a small fjord with crystal-clear sea and a fishermen's chapel that has been here for centuries. It is like discovering a secret the coast was keeping.
5. Marina di Puolo: A Tiny Fishing Village

This is a working fishing village where boats unload their catch and restaurants right on the water serve what came in that morning. The fish tastes like it came from the sea an hour ago because it did. Sitting at a table watching fishermen work and boats arrive, you feel connected to something real and timeless.
Sorrento's postcard is real, but it isn't the whole story. Skip the day trip to Capri once and spend the day in Marina di Puolo, swim at Regina Giovanna at dawn, hike to Ieranto in the afternoon. And the coast will give you the version of itself that only the people born here see.
